Who can join Social Work Council?
Membership is open to any undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. "Members" are defined as Social Work pre-majors, majors, or minors that express interest in the field of social work.
Where and when are meetings held?
Meetings are held every other Monday at 6:00 pm in the School of Social Work student lounge, Room 1.204A. Meetings typically last between thirty minutes to an hour. You can check our calendar tab for exact dates.
Are there dues?
No, there are not dues! Social Work Council is absolutely free to join. Member events and activities are funded by council fundraising efforts, and by funds allocated to us through UT Senate.
What are the obligations for council members?
Executive Officers need to be present at weekly council meetings and weekly Senate meetings. Non-executive members are not required to attend any meetings, but we encourage you to make every council meeting that you can! In addition, there is not a certain number of social or volunteer events you are required to attend each semester, but we would love for you to join us as often as you can. Council members receive a free t-shirt after attending three council meetings.
How do I purchase merchandise?
Social Work Council has an assortment of merchandise available for purchase. At the moment, merchandise must be purchased in-person. If you would like to make a purchase, please sent us an email at the 'Contact' page so we can set up an appointment to meet with you in the School of Social Work.
